We started off with a @makersmark #whiskyflight and followed up with some tasty #izykaya eats. I had the Crispy Truffle Potato “Okonomiyaki” with kewpie mayo, katsu sauce, furikake cabbage, bonito flakes and the Lobster Motoyaki with scallions, tobiko, red miso yuzu aioli.

I realize it’s been over a month since I was in Rome. Since it has taken me a little over 20 years to get back to Eternal city, i’m trying to do my due diligence posting photos/videos. 🤣

One of the most extensive collections of arts and artifacts in the world is technically not even in Rome, it’s in Vatican City @vaticanmuseums

You could spend days just looking at everything with a fine tooth comb and you’ll notice besides the art - there’s a lot of marble. Some of which, came straight from the Colosseum (one might say “borrowed”). Here are some highlights…

Some fun facts…The Colosseum is 2000 years old and had the capacity to fit about 80,000 people. The best fact of all is there were female gladiators who fought, known as gladiatrix! I feel this would make a great @netflix series.

#ICYMI - I was in Rome last week. And although a l

#ICYMI - I was in Rome last week. And although a lot of the famous sculptures and sites were under wraps for restoration, (due to the Catholic Jubilee; occurring every 25 years) we still managed to visit and take some photos. In fact, this is probably a closer view of the Trevi Fountain because we are standing on scaffolding over top of the water basin. The Trevi Fountain is the largest Baroque fountain in Rome.

Water within the Trevi Fountain is fed by the Virgo (Virgin) aqueduct, the only ancient aqueduct which has been functioning continuously since ancient times. It’s 22 km long! Not only does it feed the Trevi Fountain, but also the Barcaccia Fountain, which is at the base of the Spanish steps too (close to where we stayed).

The main central figure of the fountain is Oceanus, protector of all earth’s waters.

And here is the Myth of the Trevi Fountain:
If you throw one coin: You will return to Rome. I did this in 2003, so that worked out 🤣
If you throw two coins: You will fall in love with an attractive Italian.
If you throw three coins: You will marry the person that you met.

I couldn’t stay at the @galleriavikmilano , and not take 1 million photos and video of this view. It is absolutely perfection and I would recommend staying here to anyone, based on location alone. The service of the concierge is extremely attentive and helpful. Although there is plenty of restaurants around, I had room service and breakfast at the hotel restaurant, @vikpellicootto And you cannot forget @i12gatti in the attic of the #galleriavittorioemanuele for #apertivo and dinner (and a fun pizza class) too!

Hot tip, guests of @galleriavikmilano can organize a pizza making class at the restaurant through the concierge and not have to venture too far to have a great meal.

Here’s the backstory (as written on the table placemat):
Once upon a time, there was an old woman who lived in one of the attics of the Galleria Vitorio Emanuele II. The old woman was known, because through the dormers fed the pigeons and her pair of black cats that roamed free on the rooftops. The day when the old woman, too lonely and too old to continue to live up there, left the attic, the cats remained. Too wild and too wary to be captured. But contemptuous of danger and curious enough to venture more than once through the warehouses in the shops of the Galleria. The cats of the old woman have multiplied and today, on the roofs of the Galleria, lives a colony of twelve cats, all black. We (@i12gatti ) along with the City Council of Milan and the associations of animal protection, with great enthusiasm, have made a commitment to contribute to their care, leaving them the space and the tranquillity, because a roof without cats is anonymous. By eating here you are contributing to their care and especially their freedom. Thank you.

What a week, friends! Here’s some more Milan content for the weekend.

While in Milan, I did two touristy things.
The first touristy thing I did, I’ve done before, but because you can only be in the space for a limited time for restoration purposes - I had to go again.

It was visiting Leonardo Da Vinci’s Last Supper fresco. I learned five new things about the famed dinner painting:
1. Leonardo’s signature knot is found in the lower right corner of the table cloth.
2. The light blue designs were not part of the original.
3. Leonardo used oil based paints, which did not wear the rest of time and began to flake off.
4. Due to this trial technique, artist Pinin Brambilla spent 21 years successfully restoring the fresco. She died at the age of 95. I think this would be a great feature film or limited series (just putting it out there in the universe).
5. During the war, the fresco was sandbagged to protect it. And after the war, the fresco wall and the painting on the wall across (The Crucifixion) remained standing.

The Duomo, is the second touristy thing I visited on my Milan trip. This was my chance to walk along the terraces, above the roof and see the stunning view. And as you can see, the gothic architecture is breathtaking.
